I made a mistake a while back and I want to correct it now. I actually did a column that sounded more like bragging than it did a prediction. The best I recall I predicted that the Los Angeles Dodgers would win the world championship and they would have a fairly easy time defeating that team from Canada, the Blue Jays. I was embarrassed after I had it printed. It sounded like a “know it all” telling a bunch of “know nothings” how the bread was buttered. I didn’t intend it like that but it turned out like that, and I want to apologize even though the Dodgers won the pennant and did it in amazing fashion.

It turned out extra innings in Game 7 and it was as thrilling as you can possibly imagine. The Dodgers won it and I made it sound like I knew exactly who was going to win it. I didn’t! I should have gotten beat if it wasn’t for, well, my lack of humbleness. I am embarrassed because I think the better team actually lost. I thought the Dodgers played as well as they could and almost lost the series. I’m not sure that the other team didn’t play better baseball. I really thought they did. I thought that they deserved to win. So, the Dodgers won and congrats to them and the team from Canada lost and by golly congrats to them as well.

The other thing that I wanted to mention was that Stephenville defeated Brownwood Friday night. I would like to comment on that. They not only beat Brownwood, but they beat us into submission, if you will. Brownwood played a pretty dog gone good game the first half. I really think if it weren’t for injuries and stuff like that we would have hung in and gotten beat by four touchdowns or so, but not seven like it was.

Stephenville has a very good ball club and they will have another good one next year as their quarterback is back, their running back is, and they are both quality players. So, they’ll have the same type of team next year and they will – well, they’ll win State this year unless somebody gets in their way a little bit. There are probably three or four teams in 4A at the top who can give them a fight – make them break a sweat. Brownwood could not do that.

Defensively – I watched the ballgame and was impressed – we have some defensive players who were a concern for them. They are a concern for any team at the top of 4A. They played well the other night until they ran out of fuel.

Stephenville is the real deal and somebody is going to have to have a heck of a team and play a heck of a clean ballgame to have a shot at beating them. Brownwood is solid. They are better than they looked the other night. They will beat Marble Falls. They will go into the play offs as the No. 2 team and they could win a game. They could even win two, but then you get the top of the line in the other districts before too long, and Brownwood can’t win against a top of the line program. It’s not impossible, but they shouldn’t be able to win. We should be excited about winning two ballgames and excited about what the future holds.

Until next time, so long everybody.
