If your son or daughter is interested in attending college at one of the United States military service academies, here is your chance to learn more about the academies and how to apply for admission.
U.S. Congressman August Pfluger will host his annual Service Academy Night on Monday, September 30 on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo. Pfluger, himself a graduate of the Air Force Academy, will answer questions about the academies and explain the application process for admission. There are five military academies in the United States:
U.S. Military Academy (Army), in West Point, New York
U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland
U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado
U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York
All of the military service academies offer a free college education, excellent academics, leadership training, and a career in the military. Admission standards are high, so interested students should begin preparing early. High school juniors should definitely attend this meeting, and Congressman Pfluger encourages students in the 8th, 9th, and 10th grades to attend and learn what to do in high school to position themselves to be a good candidate for appointment to one of the military academies.
In recent years Jackson Patrick from Goldthwaite received an appointment to the Air Force Academy, and Griffin Cheslock of Early received an appointment to the Coast Guard Academy.
The Service Academy Night will take place Monday, September 30 at the Davidson Conference Center, in the Houston Harte University Center of Angelo State University, 1910 Rosemont Drive, San Angelo TX 76909. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the event will run from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
