Joy Cornelius

Joy Ann (Golden) Cornelius, 83, of Zephyr, Texas passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024. A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Heartland Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held in the Zephyr Cemetery, 10:00 AM, Friday, August 16, 2024 officiated by Bill Campbell.

Joy was born in Richland Springs on December 18, 1940 to Viron Blake and Zuella Mae (Daubs) Golden. She graduated from Zephyr High School and married Ronnie Cornelius April 19, 1969. Joy worked in a few factories over the years but her true love was child care provider. She worked taking care of family, grandkids, friends and neighbor’s kids for over 15 years and absolutely loved her work. She served as a Sunday School Teacher in the Zephyr Baptist church and loved participating in Vacation Bible School. Her family was her life and she enjoyed spoiling all the grandkids and great grandkids. She went to all the school functions, games and reveled in the accomplishments of her grandkids. Joy served at the Zephyr Baptist Church and was in love with Jesus and her church.

Joy is survived by her children, Alicia Voglesong and husband, Gary of Brownwood; sons, Michael Wade and wife, Carol of Zephyr & Viron Cornelius and wife, Becky of Zephyr; Numerous grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Cornelius and a son, Tommy Wade.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff, nurses and doctor’s that cared for Joy at Hendrick Hospital and Brownwood Nursing & Rehab.
