Jimmy Leon Conner, age 87, of Bangs, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024. A visitation will be held Friday, January 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 13, at 2:00 pm at First Methodist Church in Bangs.

Jimmy was born to Jim and Odell Conner on February 3, 1936 in Cross Cut, Texas. He graduated from Rising Star High School and went on to earn his Masters of Education at Texas Tech University. Jimmy married Johnye Fleming on June 5, 1955 at Pleasant Valley Church, in Willliams, Texas and the couple was blessed with three children. Jimmy enjoyed coaching, teaching and working with others. He was greatly loved by his students and teachers. After spending 38 years in Education, Jimmy retired from Plains ISD as the Junior High Principal. During his long career, he never took a summer off, instead spending that time farming and roofing houses. He was skilled at remodeling and fixed up every home the family lived in. Anyone that knew Jimmy knew that his main love in life was his wife and children. In his retirement, Jimmy enjoyed spending time at the coffee shop with friends and tending to his cattle and goats. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Johnye Conner of Bangs; sons, Ray Conner (Brenda) of Bangs, Randy Conner of Oklahoma, Russell Conner of Bangs; grandchildren, Calley Conner (Megan), Toby Conner (Shana), Ryan Conner (Kelly), Lana Bagley (Scotty), April Ward (Justin), Jayson Conner (Lindsey), D’Ann Dedeke (Taylor); 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many close friends.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
