Eduardo “Wally” Perez Cardenas As the day was dawning, Edward “Wally” Perez Cardenas passed away quietly on Thursday, October 6, 2022 in Brownwood. He was 79 years old and anticipated his passing with grace and dignity.
Edward Cardenas was born on July 6, 1943, to Andres and Juanita Cardenas (Perez) in
Brownwood, Texas. He was the second-born of six children.
As a youth, Edward attended Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana (First Mexican Baptist
Church) on Melwood Avenue. He was a little shy about involvement in church activities, but nonetheless displayed a heart for the Lord. In later years, Edward and his wife, Barbara, while his health permitted, attended Haven of Hope Church in Brownwood.
Edward attended schools in Brownwood and especially loved to work with math. He also enjoyed traveling. He liked Colorado and California, but Texas always beckoned him back.
Edward was a gifted carpenter, with skills that were passed on from father to son through several generations. He was also skilled as a cook, electrician, and car mechanic. Edward was gifted with many talents. He was always willing to help in any capacity. This endeared him to many. Until the end, he was affectionately referred to as “Wally” or “Walo” in Spanish. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Andres Rosales Cardenas and Juanita Perez Cardenas, brothers Arturo (Arthur) Perez Cardenas and Juan (Johnny) Perez Cardenas. He is survived by two sisters, Erlinda Cardenas Trillo (Carlos) (Buena Park, California) and Susana Cardenas Ceniceros (Jaime) (Coleman, Texas) and by one brother, Jose (Joe) Perez Cardenas (Ronnie) (Brownwood, Texas). Edward is also survived by his wife, Barbara Shafer (Brownwood) and two stepchildren, Martin Mata and Neva Mata. Others include three sons, Kevin Cardenas, Eddie Cardenas, (California), Shannon Mariani Cardenas, and a daughter, Monica Cardenas (Colorado).
The family will receive guests and friends at Heritage Funeral Home (Davis-Morris) in
Brownwood, Texas on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
