The blowout of a tire is believed to be the cause of a one-vehicle accident that occured on Belle Plain at Mulberry Street Wednesday evening around 6 pm that toppled a light pole into some utility lines.

The male driver in his 20’s reported that he felt his tire blow out and then he lost control of the vehicle.  The white Pontiac struck a steel street light pole causing it to fall onto nearby utility lines.   The driver said that the air bags deployed blocking his and his female passenger’s vision and they thought the windshield of the vehicle broke as they also hit a boat and trailer which was parked in the lot where the vehicle came to rest.  Upon stopping, they realized that it was not the windshield, but the ice from a cup that the passenger was holding at the time of the accident.

No injuries were reported, although the driver had a red mark where the air bag hit his arm.

Oncor Electric Delivery was called to service the utility lines.  A nearby restaurant owner reported that the electricity in the area went out as the accident occurred.  Oncor representatives told police that power would be out for a short time in the Belle Plain as they worked to clear the scene.

Brownwood Police Department, Brownwood Fire Department and Guardian EMS responded to the accident.
