Reunion 2009

crowdShot_wrapupCommittee members and organizers for the 9th Annual Brownwood Reunion Celebration held their final meeting on Wednesday to discuss the Reunion and how each event was handled.

Organizers had overwhelmingly positive comments from the public who attended the Reunion this year and calls and email are still coming in.

The Heartland Cruisers Classic Car Show was recognized as one of the most popular attractions.  They estimate that over 5000 people attended the event held at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Also recognized was the Children's Parade which they hope to expand for the next Reunion. The 5k run also had the largest number of runners ever.

Reunion 2009

DoersministryNow that the 9th Annual Brownwood Reunion Celebration is over and the clean up complete, there was just a few bits of unfinished business for one group of competition organizers.

The Hands on a House competition, organized and sponsored by Coldwell Banker, Avalon Custom Homes, and WT Harris Company, was not only an endurance contest to win a playhouse, but an event to help the needy in Brownwood.

A food drive was added to the competition for the second year in a row through Hands on a House.  Mark Campbell owner of Coldwell Banker, Mark Campbell & Associates reports that over 3000 can goods were received as a result of the contest's food drive along with $466 in cash.

These can goods and money were donated evenly to Doers Ministries and St. John's Food Pantry this week.

Reunion's Hands On A House Contest Winner

Sunday, 20 September 2009 17:35 | Written by Ray Tipton | PDF | Print | E-mail
Reunion 2009

hoh4Hands on a House recorded the earliest win ever as it went EXTREME.

The 9th Annual Brownwood Reunion Celebration contest sponsored by Coldwell Banker, Avalon Custom Homes, and WT Harris Company declared a winner at about 11:30am on Sunday.

After 41 and a half hours of standing with their hands on the custom built playhouse with no sleep, 18 year old Zach Peterson, a Brownwood High School student, was declared the winner.

Peterson prevailed through the extreme challenges offered in this years contest such as holding a waiter tray, being blindfolded, and squatting after many hours of standing.  All of these extra challenges helped eliminate several of the other contestants.

Peterson also won some extra breaks as a result of the food drive competition that ran in conjunction with the contest.  Peterson received over 750 donations of can goods to put him in the lead.  However, second place winner Chuck Gebhardt received almost the same number of donations so each of these contestants received an extra 30 minute break each.  All donations went to Doers Ministries and St. John's Food Pantry.

Reunion 2009

CharacterProjectReceptionPhotographer Eric McNatt embraced his Texas roots during the Brownwood Reunion Celebration with an exhibition and reception showing off his work that has brought a touch of celebrity to some area residents.

In 2008 McNatt was asked to participate in the USA/ NBC- Character Project, published by Chronicle Books and Produced by the Aperture Foundation.  His contributions featured many people from the Brownwood area that showed their personalities.

The Character Project was featured at a book release & art exhibit in New York City in early March with Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce officials Laura Terhune and Emily Crawford attending at McNatt's invitation.

On Saturday, a reception was held at The Turtle Restaurant & Enoteca for McNatt along with many of the people who were subjects featured in the book.  The reception was packed with people wanting to get autographed copies of the book, look at the photos, and purchase some prints.

For those who were featured in the book, McNatt provided prints to them to show his appreciation.
