Court Allows Food Plaza to Retain Alcohol Permit

foodplazanumber6Appointed Judge and County Commissioner Larry Traweek issued a judgment Tuesday granting renewal of the alcohol sales permit of the Food Plaza located on Southside Drive in Brownwood.  The decision to grant the renewal was a result of a special hearing held on August 19th where the City of Brownwood and Brownwood ISD had previously issued protests of the permit’s renewal.

According to the order granting Food Plaza renewal of the permit, Traweek cites the previous ruling by Judge Cavanaugh as specifically finding that the premises in question satisfied the requirement regarding distances from the nearest school and no appeal had been filed which made the previous judgment final.

High Enrollment Causes BISD to Consider Expansion of Elementary School

EastElemBrownwood school officials are facing what they consider a “good problem to have” with high enrollment numbers and limited space, especially in their elementary schools.

Total enrollment at BISD as of Monday is 3596 students which is up 56 students from just last Monday.  Although many of the students coming into the district are from several grade levels, the elementary schools are shuffling students to help make room.  Some students who had transferred from outside the district to East Elementary have been given the choice to either go to Northwest Elementary or go back to their home districts due to high enrollment. Due to some of the schools being at or near capacity, the school district has even had to turn some transfer requests down altogether..

Brownwood High School Selected as TEA Best Practices School

BestPracticesModelThe Texas Education Agency (TEA) has chosen Brownwood High School as a “Best Practices” model for Whole-School Strategies for Improvement.  BHS was one of only nine high schools selected in the State as a Best Practices school.

“It’s really quite an honor,” said High School Principal, Bill Faircloth.

The Best Practices Clearinghouse identifies schools that are excelling in a particular area and investigates what makes them successful.  An in-depth report is generated on each Best Practices school, so that others can learn from their methods of achievement.
