What is MOPS? You may ask…MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS exists to meet the needs of every mom - urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms - moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be! MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy through kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs.

Blanket Named Army Strong Team Of The Week Dave Campbell’s Texas Football announced that the Blanket Tigers football team has been named the Army Strong Team of the Week for Division Six-man.
The Blanket Tigers were chosen for this honor because of their teamwork, dedication, discipline, personal courage and integrity, values shared by U.S. Army Soldiers. “Blanket was only 5-5 in 2009, but the Tigers showed that they're a playoff threat in 2010 when they opened the season with a dominating 74-40 win over Panther Creek. The Panthers were 9-3 last year.” said Adam Hochfelder, general manager of Dave Campbell's Texas Football.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Using Social Media to Connect with Hunters
AUSTIN – As thousands of hunters flock to their bird leases for the opening day of dove season in the North and Central Zones Wednesday, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is going to be trying something new. To encourage discussions among hunters and hopefully foster better communication between TPWD and some of its prime constituents, the department is going to be reaching out to the public through social media. BISD Moving Forward with New Scoreboards – Advertising Spots Available
The purchase of the new scoreboards was included in the recently approved 2010-2011 BISD budget. The scoreboards will be installed this fall, prior to the 2011 season. BISD officials announced that ad space will available on the scoreboards for a five year commitment. The ad space will be sold by a bidding process which is open now through September 10th at 1:00pm. Law Enforcement arrests and reports released Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Monday, August 30 *Texas Department of Public Safety along with Brownwood Police arrested 21-year-old Kevin Lewis Kessinger of Blanket and 22-year-old William Joseph Meyer of Early. Both were charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Burglary of a Vehicle and Criminal Mischief, greater than $1500, less than $20,000. Click Here for full story. *At 9:46am Brownwood Police were called to the 100 block of C.C. Woodson regarding a stolen purse. It was found that the purse had been taken from the complainant’s residence some time between Sunday at 11:30pm and early Monday morning the report states. Suspect information was gathered and the offense is under investigation. *At 10:17am, a Brownwood Police officer spoke with a complainant at the Brownwood Police Department regarding a theft. According to the report, the victim explained that she had paid a local fencing contractor $3400 to build a fence at her residence on August 12, 2010; however the contractor has not done any work. Court Allows Food Plaza to Retain Alcohol Permit
According to the order granting Food Plaza renewal of the permit, Traweek cites the previous ruling by Judge Cavanaugh as specifically finding that the premises in question satisfied the requirement regarding distances from the nearest school and no appeal had been filed which made the previous judgment final. Texas Marks 10 Years, $30 Million in State Wildlife Grants Federal Funding Texas will celebrate Teaming With Wildlife Week Sep. 4-12 to mark the 10th anniversary of the federal State Wildlife Grants (SWG) program. Since 2000, this funding source has provided more than $30 million for Texas to help fish and wildlife and their habitats, including species that are not hunted or fished.
Nationwide, the program has provided federal funding for conservation projects totaling more than $573 million to state agencies such as Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which has received about $3 million per year for Texas conservation in the past decade. Since TPWD has had to match federal grant dollars by at least 35 percent, total on-the-ground conservation funding for Texas is actually more than $40 million since 2000.
Brownwood To Host Punt, Pass & Kick Competition Sept. 2
There are five age divisions for boys & girls they are: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15 based upon the child’s age as of December 31st of the current year. High Enrollment Causes BISD to Consider Expansion of Elementary School
Total enrollment at BISD as of Monday is 3596 students which is up 56 students from just last Monday. Although many of the students coming into the district are from several grade levels, the elementary schools are shuffling students to help make room. Some students who had transferred from outside the district to East Elementary have been given the choice to either go to Northwest Elementary or go back to their home districts due to high enrollment. Week 1 Harris Ratings: Brownwood Climbs To No. 1
Leading the way are the Brownwood Lions who are coming off a 56-19 win over Gatesville which vaulted the Lions to the top spot in Class 3A. Meanwhile the Wylie Bulldogs fell two spots to no. 14 while the Snyder Tigers jumped six spots to no. 24. In Class 5A Abilene High falls two spots to no. 3 after kicking off the season as the top team in Texas despite beating Belton 37-26 in the Texas Football Classic. Law Enforcement Blotter 8/30Law Enforcement arrests and reports released Monday, August 30, 2010. Wednesday, August 25 *A Brownwood Police officer was approached while on duty at Brownwood High School regarding an iPhone that had been stolen last year. According to the report, information was obtained and the investigation started with a suspect being named and the iPhone being returned. Investigation is ongoing to determine if there are additional suspect in the theft. Friday, August 27 *Brownwood Police arrested 22-year-old Keshia Marie Camp Slate for Resisting Arrest and CPF/Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. *At 8:43pm, Brownwood Police were called to the 3300 block of N US 183 regarding an assault. After an investigation, it was determined a male subject has been assaulted during an altercation on N US 183 the report states. No arrest had been made at the time of the report.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Looking for Hunter Feedback as Dove Season Opens
Brownwood ISD is moving forward with plans to purchase and install new scoreboards for their baseball & softball fields. The Brownwood school board previewed designs earlier this month for two new scoreboards for use at Morris Southall Field and the Lady Lions Softball field near Brownwood High School.
Appointed Judge and County Commissioner Larry Traweek issued a judgment Tuesday granting renewal of the alcohol sales permit of the Food Plaza located on Southside Drive in Brownwood. The decision to grant the renewal was a result of a special hearing held on August 19th where the City of Brownwood and Brownwood ISD had previously issued protests of the permit’s renewal.

The Brownwood Parks & Recreation Department will be conducting a free “NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition” on Thursday September 2nd 2010 at 6:30pm at Coggin Park – 2001 Austin Ave. The competition is open for boys & girls ages 6 to 15.
Brownwood school officials are facing what they consider a “good problem to have” with high enrollment numbers and limited space, especially in their elementary schools.
After the opening week of high school football, area Big Country schools have managed to shake up the Top 25 Harris Ratings.
